UNDERWRITING INTEGRITY THROUGH
DATA VALIDATION WITH MCSS.NET

Small fleet underwriting must include real-time integrated FMCSA safety measurements and DOT data to reduce time and cost required to adequately review a small but potentially costly risk. With Motor Carrier SnapShot (MCSS.net), our goal is to provide the most accurate, detailed, and relevant information for our network of agents and underwriters. We have developed this solution to be both a front-end validation tool for field underwriting and a solution ‘plug-in’ to improve the underwriting process. Our databank incorporates over 20 proprietary and public “read-access-only” databases with daily scheduled updates.

PREVENT FRAUD BY DATA MANIPULATION

Preventing data manipulation and ensuring the accuracy and honesty of the risk presented to an underwriter is fundamental for any successful program. MCSS was built for this purpose, as a data driven framework to prevent risk manipulation within a small fleet rating system.

With a regularly updated data framework, MCSS prevents and quickly identifies an end user that may be more focused on favorable results of the numbers shown than the accuracy and honesty of risk presented.

Motor Carrier SnapShot: Redefining Fleet Underwriting

DASHBOARD

The user has the option to start directly from the Advanced Search screen or the Dashboard area. The Dashboard provides the user with access to the Carrier Search, Active Client List, Saved Search List, and the My Search History.

COMPANY SEARCH LIST

After performing a search, the Company Search List will provide a list of all the companies found with similar search criteria. If there are related record connections, the Company Links will display those connections.

The following Company Links are available:

  • Physical Address
  • Mailing Address
  • Phone Number
  • Contact Name
  • Email Address
  • Chameleon Carrier

MOTOR CARRIER SNAPSHOT

Motor Carrier SnapShot is divided into 8 main sections: General Information, Authority, Insurance, Inspections, BASICs, Crash History, MCSS Rating, and Options and Comments with additional customized sections available for a Company Underwriter.

AUTHORITY

The Authority section contains all up-to-date authority information for records that have Active For-Hire Authority. There is no need to look at three or four screens to find the required carrier information.

BASICS HISTORY

The BASICs Overview can be broken down in the BASICs History page. Review by category, month, and even down to the specific power unit. The history shows the violations that are causing the issues and what issues are most prevalent.

MCSS RATING

Having data available is great, but what it can say about the carrier makes all the difference. The MCSS Rating section has been built to evaluate safety and performance. We have customized the algorithms to focus on the issues and violations that matter more to an underwriter than inspection sufficiency.

INSPECTIONS

Inspections help tell the story of a carrier’s performance history. Understanding the pattern of violations, the specific violations, and the equipment responsible for them can tell an underwriter whether the account as a whole is a problem or if there is one bad apple.

INSPECTION FILES (MAPPED)

The Inspection Files drill down into the details, but we don’t stop there. By mapping those inspections, an underwriter can truly assess the risk’s location.
